LOWER LEAGUE STARS: Northampton go on stunning January run

Northampton Town's incredible run through January has propelled them to the top of League Two.

The Cobblers, despite their financial state hovering in the background, have won 11 matches in their last 12, and managed to win all of their four league games during the first month of 2016.

Their 2-1 away victory at promotion rivals Plymouth Argyle on January 12 was evident of their progression under manager Chris Wilder.

The former Oxford United boss has turned the fortunes of the Northamptonshire club around since he took over two years ago, and the 48-year-old is one of the main reasons why his team are now five points clear at the summit of England's fourth division.

Wilder said he wanted to 'finish the job off' with the aim of guiding Northampton to League One by the end of the season.

"We at a longer-term view and we've done extremely well, and we want to make sure we finish the job off," he said.

Their form in January has been impressive to say the least, and if they continue this from February until May, promotion will be an absolute certainty.

Northampton continued their rich vein of form with a 2-0 victory over York City on the weekend to kickstart February as they prepare for the weekend's trip to seventh-placed Leyton Orient.
