LOWER LEAGUE STAR: Winnall hitting his straps for Barnsley

A six-minute double from Sam Winnall contributed greatly to Barnsley's 3-0 win at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The 24-year-old striker scored is first in the 15th minute after latching onto a long ball from Tykes gloveman Adam Davies before firing beyond Shrews goalkeeper Mark Halstead with his left foot.

Winnall then doubled the Tykes' advantage soon after as he rifled in from 20 yards after advancing forward between a host of four opposing defenders.

Davies was called on to make a save when Andrew Mangan stepped up to the penalty spot in the 43rd minute before Alfie Mawson completed the win with just under 20 minutes remaining to put the match to bed.

Winnall's second goal was his 12th in all competitions this season, and his fifth in his past three League One outings.

The goals of the Wolverhampton Wanderers product have been vital to the Tykes' battle against the drop and now with their win at the New Meadow, they are four points ahead of the Shrews who occupy the first relegation spot of the bottom four.

If Barnsley are to stay away from the danger zone, Winnall is going to have to keep on finding the net for Lee Johnson's men. After their poor start to the season, they will hope to turn their fortunes around and finish as high up the tier three table as they can with the promotion playoff positions potentially being beyond them.

Certainly, if they want to aim for promotion next season, they will have to keep hold of their star striker who is sparkling form in 2016.
