LOWER LEAGUE STAR: Grigg double sees Wigan bridge gap in League One

Will Grigg helped Wigan Athletic take a massive step towards the League One title with a match-winning brace as they defeated Bury 3-0 on the weekend.

The 24-year-old striker opened the scoring in the seventh minute at the DW Stadium with a close range header from Yaniuc Wildschut's cross before adding a third for his club with a penalty after Ryan Colclough had scored the Latics' second.

Wigan are now unbeaten in 12 games and sit ahead of fourth-placed Walsall, Grigg's former club, by four points and are now just two points in arrears of league leaders Burton Albion.

After struggling during his time at Brentford between 2013 and this past summer, Grigg has rediscovered his goalscoring touch once again, and will be hoping to guide Gary Caldwell's side straight back to the Championship.

With his total goals this season accumulating to 12 in the league and 15 in all competitions, it is only a matter of time before reaches the 20-goal mark, which could go a long way to seeing Wigan further bridge the gap with the league-leading Brewers.

Grigg will now be hoping to fire his side towards victories when they face Millwall on Tuesday and then Peterborough United four days later.
