Peter Lovenkrands is expected to begin trials with Newcastle United this week.

The Evening Chronicle says United have been linked with out-of-contract winger Lovenkrands who has left Schalke 04.

Sir Bobby Robson wanted to sign the Dane in 2000 but the player then opted for Glasgow Rangers.

Lovenkrands may join the club on a trial basis next week.
