German legend Lothar Matthaus rates RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner among his country's best young players.

Werner is interesting Liverpool for the summer market.

And Matthaus wrote for The Sun: "This is the first time RB Leipzig's forward Werner has been selected — he is the highest-scoring German in the Bundesliga this season.

"When 14-goal Werner, 21, was at Stuttgart I thought he would be a good frontman.

"Since joining Leipzig he has been more of a second striker, but knows when to run in behind as well."
