Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes that buying a world-class player won't cover over the cracks of Louis van Gaal's United side.
Owen pointed out that Angel Di Maria wasn't able to do much to change the rigid brand of football being played by the Dutch manager last season and suggests his move to Paris Saint-Germain is not the reason for the shortcomings of the Red Devils this campaign.
"I don't buy into this view that one player can make a difference," said Owen on talkSPORT.
"Di Maria was that player, everyone thought he would change everything, but he was on his way within a few months.
"I don't think buying one world-class player will change much when you have got the other 10 playing in a rigid formation who are not enjoying their football and not allowed to express themselves enough.
"They have got to have a total sea-change in their mentality and approach to the game."
