Shane Long says he turned down more money to sign with West Bromwich Albion.

When former Reading striker Long was given the chance to sign for West Brom he turned to his two pals for advice.

He said: "I asked Kevin and Hunty about living in Birmingham and I also spoke to Damien Duff because he had worked under Roy Hodgson at Fulham.

"In the end what swayed me was the manager and his experience. Clubs were offering more money but it's not just about that.

"When I talked to him and the ideas he had in mind and how the club was going to advance, it really excited me."
