A London-based architectural firm has won the rights to build the stadium that will host the 2022 World Cup final.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has granted Foster + Partners the task of developing the Lusail Stadium in Qatar which will play host to the final of FIFA's prestigious tournament in seven years' time.
The 80,000-capacity air-conditioned stadium will be built in Lusail, 15km north of the Qatari capital of Doha.
"This is an exciting step forward in stadium design - it will be the first to break the mould of the free-standing suburban concept, and instead anticipates the grid of this future city, of which it will be an integral part," said Foster + Partners chairman and founder Lord Foster.
