Lomas desperate for new faces at St Johnstone

St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas is of firm belief that he needs to sign a few more player before the end of August if his team is to be competitive.

The Saints currently sit second bottom on the Scottish Premier League table with one point from three games and only off the bottom due to a better goal difference than Dundee.

Following the weekend's 2-1 home loss to Aberdeen, Lomas is well aware he will need some reinforcements if the club wants to reach the heights of last season's sixth-place finish.

"I've said all along that we need two or three more [players] and that's no different just because we got beat against Aberdeen," he said.

"Everybody knows we overachieved last season. And the tough thing is, with the Rangers scenario, we've got a huge slice of last season's budget missing.

"I've got sympathy for the chairman because he's got to balance the books, but it's up to him whether we bring in the two or three players that I feel we need."
