Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the Italian club simply took Nicklas Bendtner on loan because he was affordable.

The Danish striker has made just six Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri since shifting temporarily from Arsenal in the summer and has yet to get his name on the scoresheet with Marotta confirming the reasons for the move were purely financial.

"Each deal needs economical reasoning before happening," he told Rai Sport.

"We were not able to make a big money signing last summer but we wanted another striker in case we suffered from a lot of injuries or suspensions, which is the reason we chose to sign Bendtner on loan."
