Fabio Borini insists he still harbours ambitions to become a regular in the Liverpool team.
The 22-year old Italian quickly wrote himself into Sunderland's history by scoring his first goal for the club which allowed the Black Cats to beat Tyne-Wear rivals Newcastle United 2-1 on Sunday.
Despite the heroics, on-loan striker Borini feels he is still a Liverpool player and is determined to make his mark at Anfield.
"I remain a Liverpool player. I'm on loan because there wasn't space for me and, after a year of injuries, I needed to get my confidence back, to play some games," he told Rete Sport.
"But my roots are still there. There has been a squad revolution there, but the worst thing for me was getting injured when I was actually playing at the start of last season."
Borini added: "It was definitely important. Not so much just for me but for the whole team.
"It came at a difficult time and to get out of that slump is very important. It feels fantastic."
