LOAN WATCH: Newcastle's Newton nets for St Mirren in win over Partick Thistle

Conor Newton's second-half goal helped St Mirren to a 3-0 win over Partick Thistle at Firhill in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday.

The visitors opened the scoring after 15 minutes through former Rangers striker Steven Thompson and with under twenty minutes remaining, 20-year old Newton all but sealed victory for the Saints with a superb goal.

The Newcastle United loanee, who is currently enjoying his second spell with the Paisley club, latched onto a pass from Paul McGowan on the right side of the box before finishing with a sublime strike past Scott Fox into the left hand corner.

The win moves St Mirren to ninth on the Scottish Premier League table, above Ross County, Kilmarnock and administration stragglers Hearts.
