Conor Newton admits he was left feeling gutted after St Mirren were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup on Tuesday night.
The Buddies, last season's cup winners, were beaten 2-1 in extra-time by Championship side Queen of the South leaving on-loan Newcastle United midfielder Newton to lick his wounds.
"To work so hard last year to win the cup but then go out after the first game of our defence is gutting," said Newton.
"There was a lot of glum faces in the dressing room after. I'm devastated.
"Ask any footballer, they will not have a smile on their face after they get knocked out of the cup.
"I'm angry for myself, I'm angry because we have let the supporters down. They paid a lot of money to get down to Dumfries and what they got wasn't good enough.
"There are angry faces in the dressing room but that's what character is. We will use that anger to bounce back against Partick on Saturday."
