LOAN WATCH: Newcastle's Abeid eager to help St Johnstone experience Europe

Mehdi Abeid is hoping he can play as much football as possible for St Johnstone in a bid to assist the club qualify for the Europa League.

The 20-year old midfielder joined the Saints on loan from Newcastle United last month for the remainder of the season and is determined to gain invaluable first team experience while helping his new club achieve their goals by finishing as high as possible on the Scottish Premier League table.

"I am in my second season at Newcastle. I played five games for them in the Europa League and League Cup," said Abeid.

"You gain so many interesting experiences when you play in the Newcastle first team.

"It's not easy though as there are a lot of players at the club.

"I just felt I needed to get out on loan so I was able to play. That's what I intend to do during my time here.

"The aim is to play as many games as I can and then we will see what happens after that.

"I want to try and help St Johnstone qualify for Europe again, that's why I am here."
