LOAN WATCH: Guingamp spell for Newcastle's Marveaux to last just a year

Sylvain Marveaux could be set to return to Newcastle United following his loan at Guingamp.

The 28-year old midfielder joined the French Ligue 1 club on a season-long loan in July with the option of a permanent deal but it appears as though he will be back at St James' Park at the end of the season.

Guingamp chief Jocelyn Gourvennec told the Evening Chronicle that his club will not be able to afford him on a permanent deal once his temporary spell expires.

"We know that when operating at this level, Marveaux is not a player for Guingamp. His future is not here," he said.

"Marveaux is very creative and very influential in the game. He is a player of the highest level."
