LOAN WATCH: Chelsea’s Lukaku scores winner in Everton debut

Romelu Lukaku’s maiden goal for Everton secured all three points for the Toffees in their 3-2 defeat of West Ham United on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku’s maiden goal for Everton secured all three points for the Toffees in their 3-2 defeat of West Ham United on Saturday.

The Chelsea striker, who was loaned out to Everton on deadline day, entered the match at half-time to replace Nikica Jelavic.

Lukaku’s impact was immediately felt with his physical presence proving difficult for the Hammers to contain and his efforts were rewarded four minutes from time when he headed home a Kevin Mirallas cross to send the away fans into raptures.

Speaking to Match of the Day after the game, Everton manager Roberto Martinez praised Lukaku’s performance: “His link-up play was magnificent in the winning goal. He gets himself where it really hurts. That was a key moment and showed where he can be a key player for us. He can be very special for us.”
