LOAN WATCH: Arsenal re-call Akpom from Coventry

Arsenal have temporarily re-called Chuba Akpom from his loan spell with Coventry City.

The talented 18-year old striker joined the League One club on February 14 in a deal which would see him remain at the Sixfields Stadiums until the end of the season.

However, the Gunners have asked him back for Friday night's fifth round FA Youth Cup clash with Charlton Athletic as well as next week's UEFA Youth League meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk.

England U19 international Akpom, who had an earlier loan at Brentford this season, will be back with the Sky Blues by the end of next week.

Coventry development director Steve Waggott was fine with the temporary shift back to north London as it was part of the agreement when Akpom arrived in the West Midlands.

"As part of the contract to allow Chuba to join us, there was always an agreement that he could be recalled by Arsenal should they require him," Waggott told the club's official website.

"He has been an integral part of their FA Youth Cup run and we understand head of youth development Liam Brady's reasoning for wanting him back for their upcoming games.

"Chuba will, however, return to us after these fixtures and we look forward to having him back as he's made a great impression during his short stay so far."
