LOAN STAR OF THE WEEK: Arsenal striker Sanogo hits hat-trick in Charlton loss

Well over a year since his last professional goal, Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo managed to bag a hat-trick for loan club Charlton Athletic on the weekend.

The 23-year-old have been somewhat of a disappointment since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Auxerre on a free transfer in 2013.

In 20 appearances for the Gunners, the Frenchman has conjured two goals including one in a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in a Champions League group match in 2014.

Since then, Sanogo has been hampered by injuries and unsuccessful loan spells at Crystal Palace and Ajax. He failed to find the back of the net in Amsterdam for the first half of this season but his recent loan move to Charlton on transfer deadline day has started like a house on fire.

In his third start for Jose Riga's side, Sanogo netted all three of the Addicks' goals in the London club's 4-3 loss to Reading on Saturday.

Sanogo opened his account after only four minutes with a nice finish just inside the 18-yard box. His second goal in the 49th minute clawed Charlton back into the game after the Royals went ahead 3-1 through Ola John and a Yann Kermorgant brace.

Charlton would have felt that they had rescued a point when Sanogo latched onto the rebound of Johann Berg Gudmundsson's shot to equalize for the Addicks six minutes before the end of normal time.

It wasn't to be though as Deniss Rakels scored the winner for Reading in injury time.

Despite the loss though, Charlton manager Jose Riga was left impressed by his Premier League loanee.

"I knew the story of Sanogo and I'm happy for him that he can show his value today. Of course you have to show you can do it for more than one game but I'm happy," Riga said.

"I saw immediately during the training sessions the quality he has. When you arrive from France early as he did, at 19 to 20, to a big team like Arsenal, it's quite difficult. My discussion with him was he can come here and take what he can from this challenge."
