Former Genoa sports chief Pietro Lo Monaco feels Fiorentina only have themselves to blame for failing to land Dimitar Berbatov.
The Viola have taken aim at Juventus over their late move for the ex-Manchester United striker, who eventually signed for Fulham.
But Lo Monaco told Napolisoccer.net: "When you do transfers, you must close the gap in negotiations and not waver. Perhaps they allowed the player to think something different and the other proposals that came from Italy served as the springboard to remain in England.
"The one who behaved badly was the player who wrecked a good investment for Fiorentina."
