Pressure on Tottenham boss Martin Jol has been branded as "ridiculous" by the League Managers' Association.
"It's not a matter of pleading for patience - it's a matter of trying to have good governance in the game. It's not good for the game or the clubs that do it. Statistically it's been shown that it doesn't work.
"It strikes us as poor governance to allow managers to bring players in then after a few games look to change it.
"We try to persuade people of the benefits of giving managers a reasonable period of time. Television are obsessed with league tables after two or three games and that strikes me as utter rubbish. It doesn't help the situation at all."
Daniel Wynne, of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust, reflected the crowd's support of Jol, saying: "It's far too early to see how the season will go.
"He's taken us to fifth twice which is better than any other manager, has been backed in the summer with his signings.
"Even before the first goal we were singing songs about him."
