Lloris still confident of Tottenham's Champions League chances

Hugo Lloris is remaining optimistic about Tottenham's chances of finishing in the top four despite the setback against Manchester United on Sunday.

Spurs suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils at Old Trafford over the weekend and while credit has to be given to Louis van Gaal's side for putting on a very good display, it has to be said that Mauricio Pochettino's side were extremely poor.

Pochettino's men were second best in every department, especially in the first half - conceding three goals inside the first 35 minutes - and the defeat has severely dented Spurs' Champions League aspirations.

Nonetheless, goalkeeper Lloris stated that Tottenham must remain optimistic and look towards the future by working hard rather than dwelling on the defeat against United.

"It's not a game that we expected. We didn't see the Tottenham of this season and we can have regrets after this game because it was an opportunity for us," he told the club's official website.

"Now we need to keep working and keep our heads high because with nine games left, a lot could happen. We need to be ready and try to win as many games as possible.

"You cannot close your eyes to the first half, you need to have feedback from everyone to see what happened. But we need to stay positive and the players are already thinking about the next game."

Tottenham face struggling Leicester City at White Hart Lane on Saturday and they will certainly need to claim a victory in order to avoid falling further behind in the race for the top four.
