Lloris relieved after Tottenham edge Southampton

Hugo Lloris had a sense of relief after Tottenham defeated Southampton 1-0 on the weekend.

Spurs had Christian Eriksen's 40th-minute goal to thank for their first victory in five Premier League outings on Sunday and goalkeeper Lloris was thrilled with the result.

Mauricio Pochettino's side had been held to 1-1 draws by Arsenal in the league and Besiktas in the Europa League before they edged the Saints and the France international was delighted to gain maximum points in a tight contest which allowed the north Londoners to move up to sixth on the table ahead of the international break.

"It's a good feeling to win the game, especially after the draws against Arsenal and Besiktas where in both games we led 1-0 and conceded a late goal," said the 27-year old told the club's official website.

"The result is good for our confidence and now we can go forward into the international break and beyond feeling positive."

Spurs return to action on October 18 with a trip to reigning champions Manchester City who currently sit second on the table behind league leaders Chelsea.
