Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias is adamant Joe Kinnear will return as manager at the end of the season.

Alan Shearer has repeatedly stressed he will only be in charge for eight games and The Journal understands that, at this stage, Kinnear's job will be there for him if he wants it.

Llambias said: "Joe is convalescing at home and making good progress. Everyone's wish at Newcastle United is for Joe to make a full and speedy recovery.

"For that reason, Joe and the club have decided that it is sensible that Joe does not return to management this season and that he concentrates on making a full recovery before his return in the summer as our manager."
