Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he firmly believed that the penalty miss against QPR would inspire Steven Gerrard rather than demoralise him.
The Reds skipper saw his spot-kick in the 79th minute saved by Rob Green only to recover eight minutes later when powerfully heading the winning goal from Philippe Coutinho's corner in the 2-1 triumph.
Of his inspirational captain, Rodgers said: "I have seen it so many times in games that I have been involved in and watched over the years.
"Players miss penalties at all levels and the player in question normally end up getting substituted because it affects him.
"With Steven it works the other way. It actually inspires him. He has an absolutely phenomenal talent with a tremendous drive and a determination not to be beaten."
