Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has told John Arne Riise he can leave.

The Sun says Riise was called into a meeting with Benitez following their exit from the Champions League last week.

Riise, 27, is said to have reacted angrily at being axed.

He was offered to Aston Villa in a possible switch which would take Gareth Barry to Anfield.
