Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano was delighted to wear the captain's armband in Argentina's friendly victory in Scotland.

"I couldn't believe it was true," Mascherano said after the match. "I'm very happy with my first game. It was a new experience and I'm really happy with the win.

"It was an amazing experience. I'm not just thinking about being captain, I'm thinking about the team.

"We need to improve but it's good to start to the new era. We will try to continue to improve and see what happens."
