Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has dismissed Manchester City's spending spree.
Kuyt, 28, believes that City's bid to gatecrash the Premier League's top four - and even claim the title - will not come at the expense of Rafa Benitez's side.
"They have bought some good players but we are comfortable with our squad and our players and we are comfortable that we can play better than Manchester City this season," Kuyt told the Daily Star.
"You see what is happening there and you do think 'When will they stop?'," said Kuyt, who captained Liverpool in the second half of their 0-0 draw with St Gallen in their opening pre-season friendly in Switzerland on Wednesday.
"We are looking at Manchester City and who they are buying," he added.
"Every day it seems like it is a different player who is signing but we will see what happens in the season.
"Maybe they can come in the top four but we have to make sure we finish above them because we want to go one step higher after last season."
