Liverpool's Kewell wants to play Australia friendly

The injury-plagued star has not featured for the Reds since the shock FA Cup exit against Championship side Barnsley, but believes the game against the Black Stars will be vital to his quest for fitness.

The Socceroos' ace has not played on his home turf since November 2005 and is relishing the chance to return to Australia.

He said: "For me, in particular, this is an important part of getting back to full match fitness.

I'm looking forward to getting back home as always because I don't have a chance to do it more than a couple of times a year at best."

And the 29-year-old feels the African giants will be more than worthy opponents.

"Ghana are a great team for us to play in preparation for the next round of the World Cup qualifiers," he added.
