England captain Steven Gerrard admits they stopped playing in the second-half for their 1-1 draw against World Cup qualifying opponents Montenegro.

Home substitute Dejan Damjanovic grabbed a late equaliser after Wayne Rooney had put England ahead to leave Roy Hodgson’s men still trailing the Group H leaders by two points.

Liverpool midfielder said: "We stopped playing after the break for 20 or 30 minutes and away from home you can’t afford to do that. I think they deserved the equaliser.

"There was a lot of experience out there and I think in the first half we showed that. We controlled the game.

"The problem is at 1-0 you’re always vulnerable. You’ve got to go on and get the second goal to get complete control and we never did that. They took control of the second half up until the last 10 minutes."
