Liverpool's Gerrard delighted with England captaincy

Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard admits he'd love to keep the England captain's armband.

Gerrard was made captain for Fabio Capello's first game in charge against Switzerland. Capello says he will not make a decision on who will skipper England long-term until the World Cup qualifiers later this year.

But Gerrard said: "When he named the captain in front of the boys it gave me a real big boost.

"We'll have to see what his idea is for the long-term but I was really pleased to lead the side out.

"I don't want to push myself for the captaincy because that would be disrespectful to John Terry but you ask any player do they want to lead their country out on a permanent basis and they will all say yes."
