Liverpool's Crouch tells Yossi: Now be England hero

Peter Crouch has urged teammate Yossi Benayoun to go from Liverpool hero to England's No1 after his hat-trick against Besiktas on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday the Israeli winger was the star of the show as the Reds went on a Champions League record-busting eight-goal romp against Besiktas.

Not only did his hat-trick keep alive the Anfield giants' European dreams, it confirmed he is in peak form ahead of the crucial international qualifier against Russia on Saturday week.

England need Israel to get a result or they can effectively kiss goodbye to their hopes of making next year's European Championship finals.

Hitman Crouch, who helped himself to a double against the woeful Turks in midweek, has already started urging his Merseyside team-mate to do the business for Steve McClaren's men.

He insisted: "Of course now it would be great to see him make himself a hero to the England fans as well as the Liverpool ones.

"Me and Stevie Gerrard have been getting into him, don't worry about that, trying to keep him fresh for the Israel game. We certainly need him to help Israel play well too. Hopefully he will do us a job against Russia.

"I was delighted for Yossi because he's a great lad. It was fantastic to see him getting the hat-trick against Besiktas and he was involved in almost everything."
