Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole says his former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was the biggest influence on his career.

Cole was regularly criticised by the Real Madrid coach while they were together at Chelsea.

But he explained to the Telegraph: "Now that really annoys me when you say that. He was my manager, he was entitled to criticise me about my football.

"He criticised me a lot, mind. But he improved me. I went from a player with promise to become a regular at Chelsea and for England."
