Liverpool's Carragher: Gerrard happy with new England role

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed skipper Steven Gerrard doesn't feel he is wasted playing wide-left for England.

Carra told TalkSport: "I know speaking to Stevie, he has chatted to the manager about that but he doesn't see him as a wide left player. He seems him tucking in close enough to Rooney to be in behind the main striker and the difficult thing for Stevie playing with Wayne Rooney is that they both really play in the same position now.

"People are still talking about Stevie as a central midfielder but for Liverpool he plays in the hole and that's where Rooney plays and for me they're England's two best players so they've both got to play. I know also Wayne can do that job on the left tucking in what he does for Manchester United so I think it's not just about Stevie playing out on the left, it's about him and Wayne maybe changing, moving around."
