Liverpool's Benayoun in ref row

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun is in the middle of a ref row after Israel's defeat to England on Saturday.

Benayoun clashed with Dutch referee Peter Vink after Micah Richards had sealed England's 3-0 victory with a header.

Benayoun and other Israel stars thought their goalkeeper had been impeded and let Vink know.

It was during a heated discussion that Vink allegedly abused the Kop star. Israel coach Dror Kashtan said: "My players were very upset by an objectionable remark to Benayoun by the referee.

"It wasn't racist but he used certain sentences towards our captain that were not worthy of an international referee."

As Israeli officials were last night considering whether to take their complaint to UEFA, Kashtan was also bitter about England's first goal.

He said: "There are things that can happen in a match which can affect the result and that was clearly the case today.

"England's first goal was from an offside position and for the third there was a foul on our goalkeeper."
