Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has revealed the constant support skipper Steven Gerrard gives the club's young players.
Spearing, 22, stood out in Liverpool's victory at Sunderland, winning the controversial penalty for their opening goal, and was chuffed to receive a well-done message from Gerrard.
"Stevie texted me after the game, to say I'd done well," he said. "He always speaks to me and gives me encouragement and advice, so to receive something like that from someone who has done so much for this club is a massive boost.
"That proved I can play at that level and as I said the manager has given me a lot of confidence. I've got to pay that back now and keep it going."
