Jay Spearing hopes to see action for Liverpool tonight against Europa League opponents Braga.
The midfielder is likely to step in with skipper Steven Gerrard now sidelined.
Spearing told liverpoolfc.tv: "Obviously he's a massive presence in midfield but you've got to see it as a time for the rest of us to stake our claim, get a run in the team and show we're capable of coming close to what he's capable of doing.
"Playing any sort of game in Europe or the Premier League improves you. They are chances for me to show the boss and everyone else that I'm capable of playing."
