Liverpool are prepared to compete with Machete City for Everton star Ross Barkley. The Daily Star says it is understood City bosses enquired about Barkley last month but were told he would cost them £50m. The champions value him closer to the £30m mark.
Big-spending City are willing to hand him a huge contract to sign - and there's also the added lure of Champions League football.
But Liverpool want the midfielder - one of Europe's brightest talents - too.
Kop chiefs looked at Barkley earlier this year.
He signed a new bumper deal at Goodison Park in July but that hasn't stopped the big boys plotting swoops.
