The Mirror says Portuguese sources suggest Brendan Rodgers had scouts in the country on Sunday to take a closer look on Porto midfielder Fernando.
The Brazilian anchorman, 26, is out of contract this summer and is widely expected to depart the Estadio Dragao.
Fernando has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Everton in the past and could now emerge as a target for Liverpool.
