Liverpool are following Porto midfielder Fernando.
The young Brazilian is being considered by Reds chief Damien Comolli after they lost Lucas Leiva for the season with a knee injury.
Fernando, also regarded highly by Chelsea's former Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas, is a defensive, ball-winning midfielder similar to Lucas.
Only last week, there was talk in the Lisbon press that Fernando could be scarified by Porto during the winter market.
