Liverpool are watching AC Milan full-back Ignazio Abate.
The Mirror says the Reds' England defender is not expected to renew his contract, which expires in June, and manager Brendan Rodgers has already identified targets to fill the right side of his defence.
Abate will be available on a Bosman deal next summer after failing to agree a new contract at the San Siro, but could also be brought in on a cut-price January transfer.
The 27-year-old Italian international's first choice is to remain with the Rossoneri, but will go abroad if new terms can't be reached on an extension with the Serie A giants.
