Liverpool veteran Milner: Former Leeds keeper Martyn was right, time has flown

Liverpool veteran James Milner has revealed some important advice he received from Leeds United goalkeeper Nigel Martyn.

Milner was a teammate of Martyn at Leeds before his move to Newcastle in 2004 and recalls the day the former England international warned him that his career would flash before his eyes.

"I remember Nigel Martyn at Leeds used to joke that he was old enough to be my dad," he told The Sun.

"He would always say to me 'enjoy it, because it is going to fly'.

"I'd say to him 'behave, Nige, I'm only 16.' But he was right… 14, 15 years goes like that [clicks fingers].

"You don't want any regrets. Hopefully I have still got a few years left."
