Liverpool U23 coach Neil Critchley has challenged Harry Wilson to push for the first team this season.
Wilson made a successful return to action on Friday after missing the bulk of pre-season with an Achilles injury. The Welshman played 45 minutes as Liverpool's U23 team beat Fleetwood Town on penalties to secure the Lancashire Senior Cup.
Critchley said: “It's great to have him back. He brings a real goal threat to the team.
“He's got 45 minutes tonight, now he can build his confidence, and fitness. Hopefully, in the next few months he'll carry on from where he left off last season."
Asked whether the 20-year-old could force his way into the senior picture, Critchley told the Liverpool Echo: “He will be hoping for that, but he knows that there will be plenty of players in front of him. That's the test when you're at Liverpool - it's the challenge you face.
“Harry made big strides last year- but will have to make even more this season.
“First and foremost, staying fit is going to be the biggest thing for him."
