Liverpool's Champions League hopes were hit when Fernando Torres did not travel to Turkey for their Champions League tie with Besiktas in Istanbul.

But Xabi Alonso was on the flight and has a chance of starting the game in midfield.

Torres has trained this week after the thigh problem that forced him out of Spain's squad last week, but the Turkey trip was considered too soon.
