Liverpool, Tottenham target Adam: I have silenced Scottish doubters

Blackpool ace Charlie Adam feels he's proved plenty of people wrong north of the border.

Adam, 25, has been one of the best midfielders in England this term. So good, Liverpool, Spurs, Aston Villa and Birmingham all tried to sign him last month.

The deals fell through because they didn't meet Blackpool's valuation of their skipper.

Manchester United were also linked with an interest in Adam, so don't be surprised if he ends up at one of England's big guns in the summer.

He told the Scottish Sun: "There are certain people I've proved wrong - and it puts a smile on my face to know that inside these people are HURTING.

"But you are always proving people wrong in this game. You can't please everybody. Every time I step out on the pitch in one of the best leagues in the world, hopefully I prove that I belong at this level.

"In terms of the criticism I've had, I can't name names but, yes, it's people in football I'm talking about.

"It's nothing to do with Walter Smith. I've got a lot of respect for him - for what he's achieved and for what he's done for me.

"He gave me the opportunity to play for Blackpool and to get regular football. So I have no bad words to say about Walter Smith. He's a terrific man and a fantastic manager.

"But there are others I'm proving wrong and I take a lot of satisfaction from that."
