Liverpool thrilled to have ‘massive asset’ Sturridge back on board - Gomez

Liverpool youngster Joe Gomez has spoken of the impact made by returning striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 26-year-old netted a brace in only his second appearance since April as the Reds defeated Aston Villa 3-2 on Saturday in what was a remarkable performance considering how much football he has missed this year.

Of Sturridge, 18-year-old Gomez feels the England international is a vital cog in the Liverpool machine and hopes he can retain his fitness and lead the Merseyside club back up the standings.

"Daniel's a massive component in the team," said Gomez.

"You can see how sharp he is, I noticed it straight away. He's a massive asset and [it's] a positive to have him back scoring."
