Liverpool's hopes of signing Neven Subotic have been given a boost after he announced his departure from Borussia Dortmund.
The 27-year-old Serbian defender has opted to leave the German club as reports of a potential reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield continue to circle.
In a latter to fans, Subotic said: "Last year I realised that my love of football and an active role on the pitch is too large to view action from the outside.
"Football is an important part of my life, I love it so much and without whom I would not be.
"I am now in my prime as a footballer and naturally want to use this time to bring me and my team every day forward.
"I want to be able to give everything for my team.
"That's what has made up my mind.
"I don't want my money to be earned on the bench, but to be an active part of a story as I was until last year.
"I hope you can understand and understand that BVB is my heart club and always will be."
It is understood that Klopp is showing genuine interest in Subotic and could make a move for him once Martin Skrtel leaves for Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
