Liverpool target McCourt tells Celtic he wants out

Celtic winger Paddy McCourt has told manager Neil Lennon and chief executive Peter Lawwell he wants to leave.

The Northern Ireland international has been linked with Liverpool.

The Scottish Sun says Lennon is reluctant to let McCourt, 27, go and it's understood major shareholder Dermot Desmond wants him to stay along with chief executive Lawwell.

But McCourt - two years left on his contract - has become disillusioned with life on the fringes.

He had a heart-to-heart with Lawwell on the pitch after Thursday night's 0-0 draw with Sion.

Lennon rates the Northern Ireland ace as a player with huge talent - but he's hardly started McCourt during his 17 months as boss.
