Liverpool are planning to make a move for Samuel Eto'o if they happen to miss out on Mario Balotelli.
Reports suggest that the Reds will look to the Cameroon veteran as a contingency plan if they cannot lure AC Milan striker Balotelli to Anfield before the end of August.
Eto'o was released by Chelsea earlier this summer after one season at Stamford Bridge but Liverpool see him as a good back-up in case the proposed £16million deal for Balotelli is not complete.
The 33-year old former Barcelona and Inter Milan star made 35 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, scoring 12 goals.
