At the other end of the scale of multi-million pound transfers of Newcastle strikers, Liverpool have looked to the future with the surprise loan signing of Coventry teenager Conor Thomas. The English Championship club have confirmed the move on their website which has the option of being made permanent at the end of the season.
The 17 year old is the hottest young prospect on the books at the Ricoh Arena and has represented England at Under-17 level, but there has been little interest from the rest of the Premiership.
The central midfielder made his full Sky Blues debut in Saturday's 3-2 FA Cup defeat by Birmingham.
He will be based with Liverpool's reserves at their Academy.
