Liverpool striker Fernando Torres rates skipper Steven Gerrard as a better midfielder than Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

Torres said: "For me, Gerrard is an idol. I liked him even before I came to Anfield and it is amazing to play at his side. He is on my list of the best midfielders in the world, no doubt.

"He has a great shot, great control, he arrives in the penalty box at the right time and he has great vision on the pitch. At times for us he is almost another striker. A midfielder who scores and sets up goals like he does is something special.

"Frank Lampard is a great footballer too, of course. He has many aspects of his game that are similar to Gerrard. But if you ask me which player I would rather have at Liverpool I will definitely say Stevie.

"He is a key player for me at Liverpool. He is truly incredible.

"He has a great connection with the fans and is such a big part of the club."
